Woe, Canada

BEIJING -- Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have each won a medal at these Games. Kyrgyzstan has won two. Kazakhstan has won four.

But Canada, the host nation for the next Olympics -- the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games -- is 0-for-Beijing.

And some Canadian sportswriters are getting cranky.

And there seems to be no end in sight. Consider this.

Of course, there is hockey in Beijing -- but it’s not the variety that’s played on ice.

Helene Elliott was with the Los Angeles Times’ Sports department from 1989 to 2024, first as a staff writer and then, starting in 2006, as a columnist.
