Washington Nationals phenom Stephen Strasburg was not selected to the All-Star Game by his fellow players, or by National League Manager Charlie Manuel.
Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton was selected to the NL pitching staff, with Angels center fielder Torii Hunter selected as an American League reserve. Hunter will be the lone representative for the host Angels, with Jered Weaver not selected.
National League Manager Charlie Manuel said Strasburg got ‘a lot of consideration’ even though he never has seen Strasburg pitch.
‘He’s got a great future,’ Manuel told TBS. ‘What’s he got, five starts in the major leagues? Leave him alone. Let him pitch. He’ll be an All-Star for a long time. I felt like there were other guys who had started 18-20 games.’
