Report: Portland Trail Blazers’ Brandon Roy to retire

Three-time all-star guard Brandon Roy will reportedly retire because of knee injuries.
Yahoo! reporter Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted Friday: ‘Portland’s Brandon Roy has been diagnosed with a ‘career-ending [knee] injury,’ league source confirms to Y! Sports. ‘He’s done.’
Wojnarowski added: ‘Under league provisions, Roy will get paid the term of his contract and his salary will come off Blazers cap after one full season away.’
Roy is owed $64 million over the next four seasons.
Roy, who has played his entire five-season career in Portland, has had multiple surgeries for degenerative knee damage.
He has a career average of 19 points, 4.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds. Last season marked his lowest output (12.2 points, 2.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds a game.)
News of the 27-year-old’s retirement has disappointed many people, including Miami Heat superstar LeBron James.
James tweeted Friday: ‘Please say it ain’t so. Brandon Roy retiring. Losing one of the best 2 guards in the league before he’s ready to go. So unfortunate man! SMH’
