I’m here at the baseball field at Schurr High in Montebello, where the hosts are playing Alhambra, the top-ranked team in the Southern Section Division III coaches’ poll.
Alhambra is ahead, 7-1, heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Moors, whose 17-game winning streak was ended by Schurr on Wednesday, scored two in the first, three in the third and two more in the fourth. They seem to be showing very little mercy for the Spartans who are starting to appear frustrated.
Noe Ramirez, who’s called El Sucio by a fan, has been spectacular. On the mound he had five strikeouts after three innings. At the plate, he is three for three, including a double, two runs scored and one run batted in.
Cody Heaton (two for three with two runs) and Joshua Devore (one for two) have else been effective with the bat. Devore has driven in four runs, but only two count in his RBI totals as the first two were the result of an error by the left fielder.
Check back later for the final score and, hopefully, a video interview with El Sucio-- The Dirty One.
