Boys’ basketball: Taft has early 23-18 lead

Taft has come out making nearly all its shots, including a barrage of three-pointers, to take a 23-18 lead over host Mater Dei late in the first quarter of a Southern California Division I regional semifinal.

Pierson Williams has made three of Taft’s five three-point baskets and already has 13 points in the first 5 minutes 41 seconds.
