Football: QB duel highlights Division II state bowl

Both quarterbacks have been as good as advertised despite adverse conditions in the Division II state bowl game at Home Depot Center in Carson.

Gardena Serra’s Conner Preston had a rough start, getting sacked twice in the first quarter, but has come back to throw touchdown passes of 25 yards to Marqise Lee and 65 yards to George Farmer. Preston has completed nine of 12 passes for 186 yards.

Counterpart Dano Graves of Folsom was less accurate, completing just six of his 19 throws for 110 yards, two TDs and one interception. However, his scramble ability is keeping plays alive and his two-yard run is why the Bulldogs have a 21-20 halftime lead.

Graves now has 61 TD passes and needs three more to break the single-season record.

Serra will receive to start the second half.
