Boys’ basketball: Grant upsets Valencia

Van Nuys Grant, the favorite to win the East Valley League, pulled off an upset Wednesday in the Canyon tournament, knocking off Valencia, 63-61. Valencia was 5-0 and coming off a championship in the Simi Valley tournament.

Gor Plavchyan, a 6-foot-7 senior, scored 24 points and had 17 rebounds for the Lancers (2-0), who meet Encino Crespi on Friday at 6 p.m.

Tullio Parry’s basket with 16 seconds left put Grant ahead, 62-61.
