In the CIF state championship Division I final, Santa Monica trails Pleasant Grove, 18-14, after the first quarter at Sleep Train Arena.
Pleasant Grove’s guards are hitting open shots. Matthew Hayes has six points. Jordan Mathews has scored seven points for Santa Monica.
Update: At halftime, Pleasant Grove leads, 36-27. The Eagles outrebounded Santa Monica, 21-13. Mathews has nine points. He left the game briefly in the second quarter with a bruised back. Hayes had 10 points.
