Two cordless phone makers received $2,000 fines.

The Federal Communications Commission fined two California manufacturers for selling models that cause interference with nearby television sets, radios and other cordless phones. The FCC fined Uniden Corp. of Huntington Beach and Compton-based TAD Avanti after government officials purchased the companies’ phones from retail stores and found that they were twice as powerful as agency rules permit. Officials at both firms declined to comment until they have received official word from the FCC.
