Storm Brings 8-Foot Waves

Waves generated by a storm off Hawaii have reached San Diego, bringing high surf that is drawing hardy surfers into the water despite its 57-degree temperature.
National Weather Service forecasters said waves up to eight feet today and Saturday, coupled with high tides of 6.8 feet at 6:58 a.m. today and seven feet at 7:41 a.m. Saturday, will bring surfers out but should not damage oceanfront property.
The waves accompany a changing weather pattern that began Thursday, when the Santa Ana winds were replaced by seasonal sea breezes.
The high-pressure cell that has been protecting the county from storms was weakening rapidly Thursday.
The onshore flow is expected to bring night and morning fog through the weekend, which should help keep nighttime temperatures from dropping to the freezing lows many inland areas experienced.
Morning fog should clear to hazy sunshine and intermittent clouds through the weekend, with daytime highs in the upper 60s.
