The Los Angeles Police Department expects to add more than $100,000 to its officer pension fund after the auction of more than 250 lots of unclaimed jewelry, including diamonds, pearls, gold watches and chains. About 300 people attended the auction, where many pieces were sold at prices near $500 on a cash-only basis. Starting prices for the lots were determined by officers experienced in jewelry sales, and bids started at 50% of the jewelry’s estimated wholesale value.
