A 23-year-old man from Mexico died after he was struck by a car while attempting to cross Interstate 805 on foot, authorities reported. Socorro Leal Aguilera was pronounced dead at the scene near the freeway’s intersection with Palm Avenue about 8 p.m. Saturday, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. Aguilera was struck by a car driven by Scott R. Vickery of San Diego. Vickery, who was northbound, was not injured and was not cited, the spokeswoman said. Aguilera apparently was trying to cross the freeway with five other people, none of whom was injured. The victim’s place of residence in Mexico was not available.
