Terrance Cantrell, 30, of Santa Ana, who police say was shot in the head by the estranged husband of a woman he was dating, was declared dead Monday morning, although his body remained on life support systems to preserve his organs for possible transplants.
Santa Ana police said Cantrell was on his second date with fellow employee Peggy Kenyon early Sunday when her estranged husband, John Kenyon of Santa Ana, went to Cantrell’s apartment, shot Cantrell and pistol-whipped the woman.
Peggy Kenyon remains at Western Medical Center, Santa Ana, in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
John Kenyon, 37, had been served with divorce papers shortly before the attack, police said. They arrested him early Sunday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder, but police said Monday after Cantrell’s death that they would seek a murder complaint.
