Keith Broman, a retired MiraCosta College official, has been named the interim president of Palomar College, effective March 10. Palomar’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Broman during a closed meeting last week. Broman, a former music instructor who served as MiraCosta’s vice president of instruction until he retired in October, 1983, replaces Omar Scheidt. Trustees voted 4-1 in November not to renew Scheidt’s $63,000-a-year contract. A 69-year-old resident of Carlsbad, Broman will be paid $5,355 per month. In June, trustees will hire a permanent replacement for Scheidt, who had been the college president for more than seven years. Broman has said he is not interested in the permanent post.
