Irvine : Road Plans to Come Before Council Tonight
- Share via
The Irvine City Council is expected to choose tonight between county and city plans to build three new freeways through the portions of the city.
Both plans call for new routes from the San Joaquin Hills to San Juan Capistrano, a foothill route joining the Interstate 5 Freeway south of San Clemente and an undesignated route in the eastern part of the county.
The county plan is to build thoroughfares up to eight lanes wide. The city plan, put forward by Councilman David Baker, is for four- to six-lane roads.
Councilman Larry Agran, who opposes both plans, said he thinks any highway expansion should have prior voter approval.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in City Council chambers, 17200 Jamboree Boulevard.
