Year-Round Swim Pool Dedicated in Pacoima

The Hubert Humphrey Park swimming pool in Pacoima was dedicated Thursday as the San Fernando Valley’s only year-round public pool.
The pool, however, will not be open to the public during its new winter hours. Instead, it will be used to train three north Valley high school swimming teams.
Although several Los Angeles pools stay open year-round, the Valley operates no swimming pools for the public during the winter.
Officials for the city Department of Recreation and Parks agreed to refill the Pacoima pool to provide a training for Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, Sylmar High School in Sylmar and Alemany High School in Mission Hills, according to Charles James, Valley aquatic supervisor. The schools will pay for heating, expected to cost about $2,500 a month, James said.
The schools’ swimming teams will work out in the outdoor, competition-sized pool from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The park is at 12650 Filmore St.
