Roger Beck, a senior forward on L.A. Baptist’s soccer team, made his presence known in his first game in four weeks.
Beck, who missed the last six games of the regular season with an ankle injury, kicked in a goal with seven minutes remaining in double overtime to lift the Knights over Lutheran of Orange, 1-0, in a first-round Southern Section 1-A playoff game at L.A. Baptist.
Doug Brown assisted the winning goal with a soft pass to Beck five feet in front of the goal.
“It was a tremendous offensive play,” L.A. Baptist Coach Mike Osborne said. “It had to be tremendous because Lutheran played an outstanding defensive game.”
L.A. Baptist goalkeeper Kevin Eden made eight saves, and, according to Osborne, shone in overtime.
“Eden saved the game with three diving saves in overtime,” Osborne said.
L.A. Baptist improved to 17-2-2 this season while Lutheran finished 12-6-1.
