3,500 More British Miners Resume Work

LONDON — More than 3,500 miners today abandoned Britain’s nearly year-old coal strike, a record number that management said spelled the beginning of the end of the bitter, often violent dispute.
A total of 91,000 miners were on the job today, the National Coal Board said. The figure is just 2,000 shy of the 50% working figure it says will mean the effective end of the strike.
