A 15-year-old San Bernardino High School girl who was blinded and disfigured by an acid-throwing kidnaper filed a $10-million claim against the San Bernardino City Unified School District, saying the district failed to provide transportation to school. A man gave Cheryl Bass a ride while she was walking to school last Oct. 24. He drove her into the desert and tried to rape and choke her before pouring sulfuric acid over her head, police said. A school spokesman said the district’s insurance company had advised against paying the claim. The girl then could file a lawsuit. Jack Oscar King, 65, has pleaded innocent to attempted murder, assault with intent to commit rape and other charges in the case.
