JAMES BENNETT RESIGNS POST AS KCBS-TV GENERAL MANAGER

James S. Bennett, 38, vice president and general manager of KCBS-TV Channel 2, resigned Tuesday as the CBS Network affiliate’s chief executive after four years in that post.
Bennett, in a prepared statement, cited “a need for different challenges.” He said that his pursuit of those challenges and his “commitment as the station’s general manager” had come into conflict, bringing about his decision to quit in order to give full-time thought to his next career move.
Bennett came to the station first as station manager and was later promoted to general manager in February, 1981.
Neil E. Derrough, president of the CBS Television Stations Division, accepted Bennett’s resignation “with regret” and commended his efforts in management, advertising, news and programming in turning “the old KNXT into KCBS-TV.”
No immediate replacement for Bennett was announced.
