Bethlehem Steel reached a tentative settlement.

If approved, the settlement will bring to an end a class-action suit brought by 3,006 retired supervisory employees of Bethlehem who claimed that the company reneged on promised pension benefits, a company spokesman said. The spokesman said U.S. District Judge John T. Elfvin tentatively approved the settlement in Buffalo, N.Y. Under the tentative agreement, the firm agreed to make no changes in the life insurance program available to each pensioner as of the data he or she retired, Graham said.
