Police Chief Gary E. Brown will retire April 1, city officials said. City Manager James B. Hendrickson said the search for a replacement will begin in a month or two, and that Lt. Bob McDonell will be interim chief.
Brown, San Clemente’s police chief for eight years, has spent 25 years in law enforcement. He established the summer beach patrol, the canine and tactical operations programs, neighborhood watch and the retired senior citizens’ volunteer programs. He also served as interim city manager on several occasions.
After his retirement, Brown will head the executive search division of Ralph Andersen and Associates, a Sacramento-based executive search and organizational development firm.
