Becket to Build Hotel in China
Becket International has signed an agreement with a Chinese governmental agency to design and build a $28-million, 500-room hotel in the city of Xi’an in the Shaanxi province in northwestern China.
Construction of the Huashan Hotel is expected to begin late this year, with completion scheduled for late 1987, according to MacDonald G. Becket, chairman of the board of the Becket Group whose Los Angeles-based Welton Becket Associates will design the facility.
The Huashan Hotel will become the second luxury hotel designed and built in China by Becket; the 1,007-room, 21-story Great Wall Hotel in Peking opened last spring with an inaugural visit by President Reagan and a state dinner.
