A California Highway Patrol officer chasing a motorcyclist at speeds up to 100 m.p.h. was killed when his car and a van collided head on in Ventura County. CHP spokesman Matt DeMarco said Officer David Wayne Copleman, 27, of Oak View was driving west on California 126, a narrow two-lane road, when the two vehicles collided near Fillmore. Two people in the van, Gerald and Susan O’Brien of Oxnard, were in satisfactory condition at Santa Paula Hospital with broken bones. Fillmore police stopped the motorcycle near Santa Paula and arrested Daniel L. Corley, 19, San Jose, for investigation of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving causing injury.
