The Cal State Fullerton softball team, led by the pitching of Debbie Mygind and the hitting of Terry Oberg, rolled to a Western Collegiate Athletic Assn. doubleheader sweep of the University of Arizona, 11-0 and 8-2, Saturday at Titan Field Softball Complex.
The Titans (6-0, 35-4), ranked No. 1 in the nation, got a no-hitter from their ace, Mygind, who improved her record to 17-1. After pitching a three-hit shutout against No. 5 Arizona State Friday, Mygind struck out five and walked two Saturday.
The Titans’ opening-game offense was powered by Oberg, a junior designated hitter who went 2 for 4 with four RBIs. One of Oberg’s hits was a three-run home run in the fourth inning, her third of the season. Titan catcher Maridee Richards also had a three-run homer, hers came in the sixth inning.
In the second game, Oberg hit her fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning to help pitcher Sue LeFebvre (16-3) to the win over the Wildcats (5-6, 13-12). LeFebvre also had pitched a shutout the night before against the Sun Devils. Besides her home run, Oberg also had a double and single and ended the nightcap with two RBIs and three runs scored.
