Israeli Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir demanded an investigation of allegations that former Defense Minister Ezer Weizman leaked confidential information from Cabinet meetings to the United States. Shamir made the demand after the Tehiya Party presented a no-confidence motion against the government demanding that Weizman, a minister without portfolio, be suspended until the affair is investigated. Weizman’s critics allege that Weizman used New York lawyer Leon Charney as a conduit to pass information to the Carter Administration during the 1978 Camp David peace negotiations.
