An accident involving seven vehicles on Interstate 8 Friday left two people injured and temporarily closed all four of the freeway’s westbound lanes.

The accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. when the driver of a small sedan braked suddenly, causing the car to go into a spin, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. The car, which came to a stop facing the wrong way, was hit by an oncoming truck. A third car then collided with the truck and was in turn struck from behind.

A car in the next lane spun out of control trying to avoid the accident and was hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle in the No. 2 lane. The drivers of those two vehicles were injured and taken to Mercy Hospital. The driver of the car that spun out, Valerie Williams, suffered a shoulder injury but was listed in good condition Friday afternoon. Ronald Jordan suffered a severe cut on the forehead and a concussion. He underwent surgery Friday afternoon and was described as “doing well” by a hospital spokeswoman.

One of the collisions caused a wheel to be sheared off. The wheel rolled into the far right lane, where it was hit by yet another car.
