Santa Monica police sought public help in finding a hit-and-run driver who struck and seriously injured a 6-year-old girl Friday.
Lt. Jim Dawson said the white BMW sedan involved in the incident on Lincoln Boulevard near Pacific Street reportedly had dealer plates.
Melissa Martin was eating an ice cream cone and walking in a crosswalk from the west to east curb when she was struck by the northbound car. She was hit by a second car, Dawson said. The second driver stopped, but the BMW sped away toward the nearby Santa Monica Freeway.
Melissa was taken to Santa Monica Hospital and Medical Center, where she was being treated for a possible skull fracture, a broken leg and internal injuries.
