State agencies in Sweden, retaliating against a civil servants’ strike, imposed a nationwide lockout which will close nearly all of the nation’s schools and more than 100 government agencies. The lockout was invoked after the civil servants’ union rejected a mediator’s offer of a 0.7% pay increase. The union is demanding 3.1%.
