Continental opposed Pan Am’s sale of routes.

The carrier, in comments filed with the Department of Transportation, opposed Pan American World Airways’ proposed $750-million sale of its Pacific division to United Airlines and requested that the department’s hearing on the transaction “cover the entire spectrum of public interest, antitrust and foreign policy issues.” In its filing, Continental stated that the department’s hearing on the sale should also consider the applications of other carriers interested in serving the Pacific routes at issue as well as new routes available through an agreement between the United States and Japan dated April 30, 1985.
