An unemployed salesman from Lemon Grove died Sunday after he jumped into the bay from the Coronado Bridge, the San Diego County Coroner’s office said Monday. Samuel A. Meares, 29, leaped to his death shortly before 8:30 p.m., although Coronado police tried for more than 30 minutes to talk him out of the suicide attempt. A motorist who noticed Meares standing on the bridge reported the situation to a toll booth attendant shortly before 8 p.m. Traffic over the span was halted while officers tried to talk Meares out of jumping, said a Coronado police spokesman.
