Division II Baseball : Cal Poly Pomona Splits, Advances

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Marty Rivero’s two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning started a five-run rally that broke open a 2-2 game and led Cal Poly Pomona to a 7-2 win over New Haven Monday night in the third round of the NCAA Division II college world series.
John Love followed with an RBI single and Jim Torchia ripped a two-run double.
Sophomore left-hander Charlie Webb (6-5), went the distance for Cal Poly, striking out five, walking two and allowing seven hits. Webb pitched 5 innings in Cal Poly’s first game of the day, a 10-3 loss to Florida Southern.
Cal Poly (39-28-1) faces Florida Southern, undefeated in the tournament, today in the championship round.
