Motherhood: Learning Process for Both the Adult and the Child

During the past year, 3,206 babies were born at Huntington Memorial Hospital of Pasadena, almost doubling the hospital’s yearly birth rate of a decade ago. With the growth, the hospital has introduced a childbirth education program to help women with the physical and emotional adjustments of motherhood. Mommy and Me, as one class is called, meets two hours a week to instruct mothers in postpartum exercises for themselves and in how to exercise and massage their babies. “It gives mom a chance to get to know her baby, and the two a chance to learn about each other,” a hospital spokesman said.
