Fortunetelling Ban Extended: A ban on fortunetelling in Cypress has been extended for a year. City Council members Monday night extended the three-month-old moratorium to await the outcome of a case now pending before the state Supreme Court. “A lot will depend on what happens in the courts and what we’ll see other cities in this area doing,” City Clerk Darrell Essex said. Last month, Anaheim officials repealed a 40-year-old ordinance that had banned fortunetelling in the city. Tuesday, officials set the permit processing fee at $250, which fortunetellers will have to pay in addition to a $300 business license fee and a $5,000 bond.
