A trip to the beach to celebrate the last day of school ended in tragedy Thursday when a 17-year-old El Cajon youth was fatally injured after falling off a 60-foot bluff at Sunset Cliffs.
Anthony Raymond Porta, a sophomore at El Cajon Valley High School, was pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Coroner George Dickason said. Life Flight attendants and paramedics attempted to revive the youth, who suffered massive head and internal injuries, but he died about 1 p.m., Dickason said.
The youth was walking along the cliffs, just southeast of Hill Street in Point Loma, when he apparently lost his footing and fell. Porta and four 16-year-old friends apparently went there to celebrate the last day of school, the deputy said.
