McDonald’s said it agreed to settle litigation.

The $15.5-million settlement, subject to court approval, arose out of a 1971 dispute with Central Ice Cream. A Cook County, Ill., jury had previously awarded a verdict in the amount of $52 million to Central. The settlement, partially offset by insurance and other non-recurring items, will reduce McDonald’s second-quarter earnings by about $5 million after taxes, the firm said.
