Westside Teams Still Battling in Four Sports in L.A. Games

Three Westside high school boys basketball teams remain in the running in the Los Angeles Games (formerly the Watts Summer Games), and other local boys teams are competing in baseball, soccer and volleyball.
Basketball squads from St. Monica, Culver City and Santa Monica have reached the tournament’s round of 16. In Saturday games , St. Monica faces Culver at 10 a.m. at Birmingham High School, and Santa Monica meets Dominguez at 11 a.m. at Valley College.
The Palisades High baseball team, runner-up to Venice for the 3-A Los Angeles City championship, will play a quarterfinal game against Diamond Bar, CIF-Southern Section 2-A champion, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Valley College.
In a soccer quarterfinal, Santa Monica High goes against Crespi at 9 a.m. Saturday at Valley College.
Palisades and Culver City will open play in volleyball at 9 a.m. Saturday at Valley Collage. Palisades is in a pool with Torrance, North Torrance, Estancia, Corona del Mar and Los Altos. Culver’s pool opponents are Mira Costa, La Quinta, Palos Verdes and San Pedro.
On Sunday at Valley College, there will be semifinals and finals in basketball and baseball and finals in soccer.
