The Los Angeles City Council voted to accept the gift of 162 motorcycles, helmets and other equipment left over from last summer’s Olympics, but Police Department officials are unsure what to do with the stuff. Although the motorcycles are smaller than the bikes used by police, the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee gift is being considered for use in some way by the department, or for sale. The equipment will not be used until the department’s plan is approved by the council and mayor.
