Saving Maui

Re saving Maui (Letters, June 9): I don’t see why having a better and bigger airport at Mahinahina will devastate “our quality of living, environmental beauty and mainstay economy, tourism.” Nobody goes to those hills now, and the prime-area resort and million-dollar-home residents greatly appreciate avoiding the long ride from Kahului after long flights from the mainland. Tourists certainly won’t stop coming because of a new airport--less crowded, more direct--with as equally a beautiful approach as to Kahului.
