Carlsbad Set for First Freedom Cup

SAN DIEGO — National champion Kelly Moran of Carlsbad heads the field competing in the first Freedom Cup speedway motorcycle event 7:30 Sunday night at Carlsbad Raceway.
Sixteen men will take part in the meet, which is the first American Motorcycle Association-sanctioned championship race to take place in San Diego County.
Each racer will compete in five heats, with points given to the top finishers in each heat. The man with the most points at the night will be declared champion.
Moran and Alan Christian of Fountain Valley are favorites.
