The 80-member Assembly cost $42.83 million to operate last session. That included $1.6 million for telephones, $2.3 million for newsletters and other mail, and about $1 million for district offices. The Assembly budget for the second half of the 1984-85 session was about $130,000 higher than a year earlier, according to the latest spending report covering Dec. 1, 1983, to Nov. 30, 1984. The bulk of the cost of running the Assembly involved $16.97 million in salaries for staff of the lawmakers and more than 24 committees.
