OSIMO, Italy — About 100 Swiss tourists have spent their vacation picking up garbage from a beach near this town on Italy’s central Adriatic coast.
“Yes, we are protesting against those who throw cans, bottles and waste paper,” a representative of the Swiss group who asked not to be identified said Wednesday.
The Swiss were joined by dozens of Italian tourists from the Milan area.
For nearly two hours a day since Monday, they have cleaned the one-mile stretch of seaside from Portorecanati to Marcelli, local officials said.
