Amnesty for Unpaid Business Taxes OKd

The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to give businesses a three-month amnesty on unpaid business taxes, a reprieve that could bring in as much as $2.3 million in back taxes.
Under the program, the city would waive all penalties on businesses that owe back license and payroll taxes. The program would run from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.
The waiver also would apply to businesses that have failed to file for business licenses or payroll taxes.
Officials are drafting another law to increase penalties for businesses that remain delinquent after the amnesty period.
