PEKING — Tibet has opened its first five-star hotel--complete with presidential villas, ballrooms and oxygen for guests feeling giddy from the extremely high altitude, China’s official New China News Agency said Tuesday.
The seven-story Lhasa Hotel opened Monday in Tibet’s capital city, which is 12,000 feet high.
The hotel has 1,132 beds and is composed of three buildings with total floor space of nearly 48,000 square yards, the agency said, adding that its presidential villas can accommodate two heads of state at the same time.
It also boasts reception halls, restaurants serving Chinese and Western dishes, coffee shops, teahouses, ballrooms and bars. Each guest room is equipped with air conditioning, closed-circuit television, telephones and oxygen-supply equipment.
