A New Orleans trial judge ordered the prosecution to let defense lawyers see all of its evidence against John (Hot Rod) Williams, and said he would rule today on whether to throw out sports bribery charges against the former Tulane basketball star.
The order from Judge Alvin Oser came shortly after defense lawyer Michael Green asked that the charges be thrown. Earlier, prosecutors belatedly obeyed Oser’s order to produce for Green’s inspection any material that might exonerate Williams.
Among the things Green said were brought to his attention were photographs of one of the state’s star witnesses, former Tulane student Gary Kranz, seated by a pile of cocaine with a straw in his hand.
Kranz had testified that he had little or nothing to do with drugs and had never seen more than $50 worth of cocaine at one time.
