The son of accused Nazi war criminal Andrija Artukovic said he has new evidence that proves U.S. officials improperly induced Yugoslav authorities to seek his father’s extradition. A May, 1983, article in a Yugoslav government-controlled newspaper appeared several months before the arrival of a U.S. delegation. The article said the Americans were coming “to review the usage of extradition,” according to an English translation provided by Rad Artukovic, 37, of Huntington Beach. U.S. authorities have denied the assertions, saying Yugoslav officials decided on their own to seek the return of the 86-year-old Artukovic, who is accused of complicity in the deaths of 700,000 Serbs, Jews and Gypsies in Croatia during World War II.
