A construction foreman and a worker were indicted on second-degree assault charges for illegally operating a 35-ton crane that collapsed and crushed a Manhattan woman as she took a stroll. The laborer foreman asked an untrained worker to operate a sophisticated piece of equipment, explained Manhattan Dist. Atty. Robert Morgenthau. Lino Palmieri, the foreman, and Richard Ricciardi were indicted also on charges of reckless endangerment in the death of Brigitte Gerney, 49. A lesser charge of criminal negligence was filed against the Thomas Crimmins Contracting Co., employer of the men.
