Intel signed a pact with N. V. Philips and Signetics.

A multiyear technology and product-exchange agreement covering 16-bit, single computer chip microcontrollers was disclosed by the three firms. Signetics is a subsidiary of Philips. Signetics/Philips will be alternate sources for Intel’s MCS-96 family of microcontrollers. The agreement is an outgrowth of earlier accords between the companies that covered 8-bit single-chip microcontrollers and derivatives.
