‘MERV GRIFFIN’ MOVES TO NEW TIME

“The Merv Griffin Show,” currently seen at 9 to 10 p.m. week nights on KTTV Channel 11, will move to an 11:30 p.m. time slot Sept. 9 to make room for syndicated repeat episodes of “Dynasty,” a station spokesperson said Tuesday.
“Dynasty,” last season’s No. 1 rated hit on ABC in prime time, will air week nights in the former “Merv Griffin” slot except for Wednesdays, when KTTV has scheduled “Star Search.”
A spokesman for “Merv Griffin” said that the scheduling change is for Los Angeles only. The show is syndicated to independent stations nationwide.
For local viewers, the move places “Griffin” opposite NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” a position it occupied nationwide for 2 1/2 years beginning in 1969 as CBS’ late-night entry. The show returned to syndication after failing to significantly dent “The Tonight Show’s” ratings.
