Lt. John D. Abbey Jr., a 19-year veteran of the Downey Police Department, is the new police chief in Morgan Hill, a town south of San Jose.
In his career as a Downey police officer, Abbey, who is a Downey native, worked as a communications operator, a patrol officer, detective, narcotics and homicide officer, said Downey Police Chief Bill Martin.
